Technical Theater: Glowing LED Clock Summary

Technical Theater: Glowing LED Clock is an integrated STEAM project that brings together Theater Arts, Engineering and Computer Science/Coding.

The driving question for this project is “How can we engage Engineering/Mechatronics and Computer Science/Coding into a Theater production?” This project, meant to be implemented in parallel with technical theater projects, introduces engineering and computer programming as ways to support the telling of “These Shining Lives,” a story following Kate Moore and her co-workers at Radium Dial, a pocket watch manufacturing company found in 1917.

For Teachers:

  • Theater Background:
    • Teachers should have a basic knowledge of stage production, stage construction, and specialized student groups per tasks.
  • Engineering Background:
    • Teachers should have a working understanding of fabrication, how to use a CNC machine and standard finishing procedures.
  • Visual Arts Background:
    • Teachers should have working knowledge of how to effectively present stage props in an aesthetic and organized manner which suits the goals of the theater production, additionally have some familiarity with Vectr online software.
