Summary

In the spring of 2023, Meadow Creek High School Theater Teacher John King with support from Georgia Tech Innovators and Coach presented Charlottes Web, telling the story of a lucky pig who is shown what an unconventional family looks like. 

The stage design was approached through the lens of basic engineering and mathematics, specifically the use of the Pythagorean Theorem to design a custom set of stairs. Students used nylon cord, zip ties, eyelet hooks to construct a web and finalized with foambaord letters for the various messages placed into the web.

As a collaboration, Mr. Budners Music Technology students worked with Mr. Kings Sound/Lighting students to provide the sound cues that best suited the plays atmosphere. Additionally, Mr. Budner’s students were tasked with creating original motifs for each character of the play.

Material focus was the use of upcycling of previously used stage flats and platforms.
