Visualizing Equivalent Fractions Lesson Summary

Visualizing Equivalent Fractions is a STEAM integrated lesson designed for 4th grade students. This lesson is grounded in project-based learning, follows the 5E Model of Instruction and brings together Engineering, Mathematics, and Visual Arts

In this lesson, will students construct images using the Inspiral Web Interface. The lesson can be extended to a finalizing art exhibition to present the students work.

For Teachers:

  • Inspiral Web Interface: Web based Spirograph Designer (Link)
  • Mathematics: The manipulation of basic Equivalent Fraction sets
  • Engineering: The fundamentals of gears as a simple machine
  • Visual Arts Key Terms: Scale, Pattern, Rhythm, and Repetition
    • Materials:  Glue, Tape, Scissors, Colorful Mounting Board (card stock or foam board)
